What is Face-mounting ( Diasec ); why do so many people want it?

Face-mounting is a special technique of bonding photographs to Plexiglas (acrylic glass) to protect the image from dirt, scratching and premature fading.  PlexiFoto is widely displayed in museums and galleries throughout the world.  It is by far the most impressive way to showcase an image.

When light hits the layer of Plexiglas, the reflection on the print's surface is completely different from when a print is framed with general purpose glass. With this unique production method the diffusion of light diminishes because of the homogenous quality of acrylic glass. As a result the colors seem more brilliant, intense and direct, bringing a whole new dimension to the print.

Face-mounting creates a permanent smooth fusion of print and Plexiglas.  This action creates an airtight bond of the print’s front side to the back of Plexiglas.  By affixing the back side of the print to a sheet of Aluminum Composite Panel (ACP), the “sandwich” panel provides a rigid support for the acrylic glass unmatched by other materials.  For a clean finish, the final assembly involves attaching a 1-inch thick aluminum frame with a clear industrial bonding agent.  The recessed aluminum frame acts as a spacer and provides that “floating” illusion of your print.

Tropicolor is the only lab in S. Florida using pricier Aluminum Composite Panel and clear glue similar to high end European labs.  We build the best Diasec prints in Miami, just like the ones seen in Art Basel Miami.

Although our PlexiFoto process employs better material and methods than the competition, we do not charge more, and it provides a spectacular way of presenting photographs.  It's also not more expensive than "custom" framing using quality glass and wooden or metal frame.

Professional QUALITY shows:

There is a reason why Tropicolor has a great reputation for building the best PlexiFoto in South Florida; we never cut corners on materials; we never take shortcuts on craftsmanship; the quality we offer leaves the competition in the dust – and the price is right, you will NOT find a better PlexiFoto for less.  See for yourself:

Ours: Aluminum Composite Material (AKA Dibond) offering superior strength and rigidity over time, flattest panel available.  Costing up to three times over cheaper Sintra.

Ours: Meticulous multistep finish using high quality CLEAR industrial strength glue that costs much more than marine glue.

Theirs: Sintra (white PVC), cheap look and feel, harmful Dioxin released during production.
Theirs: Made of inferior quality marine glue, slapped on leading to uneven, sloppy finish and unstable bonding for larger sizes that fail over time and fall off the wall.
